Christian World View: Our Purpose

In my Christian Worldview Class this week we were asked to reflect on what we thought our purpose was. This is what I wrote….

I believe that as Christians we have a responsibility to be a mouth peace for God here on this earth. Our purpose for being here is to bring glory to God and help build up the kingdom of heaven here on earth. We can do that by sharing Christ with as many people as possible using whatever gifts abilities and circumstances God presents us with.

Each and every one of us is unique, but we all were created in the image of God. For some people their purpose may be found by simply evangelizing with their co-workers. For others it may be something as big as becoming a pastor or doing mission work in places that need to see the light of God. I don’t believe one is any better than the other. I do however believe that everyone is meant to serve God as a part of their purpose.

For me it has been made abundantly clear what God’s purpose is for me. For those who do not know I suffer from a rare genetic disorder called ALPS. To sum it up the good cells attack the good cells thinking they are bad and it becomes much easier for me to get sick. This disease hit me really hard last year as I got sick with strep and was in the hospital for 3 months. The first 2 weeks of that I was in a medically induced coma with a 5% chance for survival. When I woke up I found they had to transfer the oxygen from my hands and feet to my vital organs to keep me alive. This meant they would need to amputate my fingers and toes. I also lost kidney function during that time and am now on dialysis.
Now I had two choices to make. Choice number one, become bitter and angry at God for all of these bad things that happened to me. Choice number two, embrace what has happened and praise God for sparing me and giving me another day of air to breath. I choose the second one. After this experience I felt the calling to become a minister and tell my story to all who would be willing to hear it. My life purpose now is to bring as many people to Christ as possible. I’m here at GCU studying youth ministry with the hope that I would build up my knowledge so that I can better serve the lord.
I challenge you today to really think and pray on how it is that God wants you to serve him. Dive into your spiritual gifts and pray for opportunities to glorify him You would be amazed at the things God can do in our lives when we merely just ask. I will be praying for you and for God to help guide you in your journey
